World Summit of Indigenous Peoples and Nature

The World Summit of Indigenous Peoples and Nature, held from October 8 to 10, 2025, in Abu Dhabi as part of the IUCN World Conservation Congress, marks a historic first global gathering of Indigenous leaders and allies dedicated to biodiversity and climate action. Co-organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB), and Indigenous Peoples’ Organization members, the summit champions Indigenous knowledge as the essential language of environmental stewardship. Over 100 Indigenous leaders worldwide come together with philanthropic supporters, governments, private sectors, and conservationists to align traditional wisdom with scientific approaches toward achieving the 2030 global goals under the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework and Paris Climate Agreement.

This landmark summit highlights Indigenous Peoples as rightful custodians of over 80% of the planet’s biodiversity and recognizes their leadership in shaping inclusive, equitable conservation policies. It features dynamic dialogues, cultural celebrations, and opportunities for strengthening investments in Indigenous-led environmental solutions. The event inaugurates the Indigenous Peoples Pavilion, a dedicated space to share community-led projects, elder wisdom, and foster intergenerational leadership essential for sustainable futures.
