United Nations Permanent Forum On Indigenous Issues (UNPFII)

The 25th session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) will take place from April 20 to May 1, 2026, at the UN Headquarters in New York, focusing on the vital theme “Ensuring Indigenous Peoples’ health, including in the context of conflict.” This important forum highlights the urgent health challenges faced by Indigenous Peoples, especially in conflict situations, and seeks global dialogue and policy action to promote culturally appropriate health solutions and protect their rights in line with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

UNPFII 2026 will engage Indigenous leaders, Member States, UN agencies, and human rights experts in critical discussions across areas including economic and social development, culture, environment, education, health, and human rights. Preparatory efforts also include a specialized International Expert Group Meeting addressing Indigenous rights amidst the climate crisis and biodiversity governance, focusing on nomadic peoples, pastoralists, and shifting cultivators.
